iPhone 4S Carrier Showdown: AT&T / Verizon / Sprint

Comments Off on iPhone 4S Carrier Showdown: AT&T / Verizon / Sprint

When the iPhone 4 was released, each carrier had their own sort of version that differentiated it with the others, most notable here is the Big Red’s version of the phone. Then when the iPhone 4S came out, it was immediately available to all carriers (i.e. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon) but unlike the previous differences, all carriers got the same device. There wasn’t any “special treatment” given per se and the consumer will choose solely based on the services and perks each carrier has. To help the consumer base get a better idea of who to go with, here’s a video showing a speed test performed on each carrier using the same phone model.

So here are the deal breakers. The speedtest results show that AT&T is way ahead of the pack with download speeds reaching up to 0.65 Mbps while Verizon follows second at 0.26 Mbps and Sprint at last with 0.16 Mbps. So AT&T stayed true to its marketing of being the fastest carrier with your iPhone 4S due to their HSPA+ enhanced 3G network. Sprint on the other hand is behind in terms of speed, but they’re trying to compensate that with their data plan packages.

So where does all this lead the consumer? Well, it still depends on your location amongst other factors. So at the end of the day, it’s still your choice but this test will probably make you lean to one side against the other carriers.
