iOS commands 92% of mobile online shopping
Google Android may be dominating the US smartphone market share, apparently when it comes to mobile online shopping, Apple’s iOS commands 92 percent of the mobile online sales in 2011 according Rich Relevance, a retail analysis firm.
“The numbers across our retailing partners sites demonstrate just how powerful the iOS platform is enabling mobile web shopping and, while still below 5 percent in total conversion, mobile traffic’s doubling in eight months is a trend we only see accelerating,” according to Rich Relevance CEO David Selinger.
The study is based from 3.4 billion shopping sessions between April and December 2011 where iOS relevantly grew from 88 percent to 92 percent market share of mobile online shopping. It also shows that the average purchases made from iOS devices was higher than its competitors. This December alone, iOS average purchases amounts to $123 compared to $101 for Android and $87 on desktops.
