Freshly baked rumors have just got out of the oven where the smells indicates that the iPhone 5 may be due to unveil this summer. According to an unnamed(reliable) source at Foxconn who spoke with 9to5Mac cited that production of the Apple iPhone 5 is gearing up.

“We received word from a reliable source at Foxconn in China that the iPhone 5, as it is currently being called, is now gearing for production,” according to 9to5Mac.

The source is the same tipster that indicated that there will be no iPhone 5 coming and that Apple was building the iPhone 4S instead. The tipster also claims that there are multiple prototype have been on the loose where each unit vary slightly from one another that it’ll be impossible to tell which one will be the final design that will go on production.

Apparently, there are some things these prototypes have in common, which include:
  • a 4+ inch display that was reportly made by LG on at least one of them
  • No teardrop-shaped devices, as rumored in the lead up to the iPhone 4S. Samples so far have been symmetrical in thickness which is also longer and wider, and basically these prototypes ditches the iPhone 4/4s form factor
The site also cited great speculation on the iPhone 5 launch date:
But what is important to note here is that iPhone 4S production did not gear up until late spring of last year.  If we follow patterns and give a five month-ish lead time, it would appear that Apple is back on its new iPhone launch for summer/WWDC pattern that it maintained until last year.
