Swiping to unlock your iPhone soon could be a thing of the past.

Programmer Hamza Sood from London has found some evidence that Apple’s upcoming iPhone will pack a biometric fingerprint sensor, further cementing the many circulating rumors about a built-in fingerprint sensor for the new iPhone since Apple bought AuthenTec last year for $356M. Included in the said aqcuisition are the many patents and technologies of the security company, which may or may not include developments involving fingerprint sensors.

Sood was said to found pertinent folders and documentations in the beta release of iOS 7. Under a folder named BiometricKitUI, he was able to find an embedded line of text inside the code that said “Photo of a person holding an iPhone in their right hand while touching the Home Button” and “A fingerprint that changes color during the setup process.” Most probably, these snippets are captions to help train users setup their new iPhone’s biometric sensor.

Historically, developers have been given early access to beta operating systems prior to their release to help them adapt to new features and rules.

Aside from unlocking their iPhones, the new sensor could also be used to authorize payments and passwords. This would greatly help banking and financial apps in making their systems more secure, as logins could then be replaced with fingerprints.

The new iPhone, dubbed as iPhone 5S, is expected to be released in a few months, which is then expected to be followed by a cheaper iPhone, rumored to be called iPhone 5C.
